Welcome! Chicken math is definitely a challenge that almost all of us deal with
I had to build a new coop this year because my flock had outgrown the old one.

CHICKEN MATH!!! You are Correct!!lolHi
What an amazing community! Thanks for letting me join. So let me explain chicken math or how 5 becomes 12.
I'm a new chicken owner. I got 5 chicks in mid-May- black australorps, buff orpington, buff polish (he died after 2 months), which crested black polish, and barnevelder (cockerel).
Since the buff polish died, I got 8 replacements in mid-Sept: 2 silver polish (died the first week), 1 golden polish, 2 buff polish, 2 golden sebright, 1 silver sebright. Hoping for pullets but for sure the silver sebright is a cockerel.
Then realized my barney need more girls so I got him a barred Plymouth rock and Barnevelder.
I had no idea how AWESOME chicken are. I used to laugh at my mother-in-law who has had chickens for years and I never quite understood the draw until I had my own. I've got a fan club and I love it!
My husband built a chicken palace and my 3 big girls moved it last week. Yes they are 20 weeks but I was worried about putting them outside. After I put them to bed two weeks ago, the Barney said "hey sexy girls" and they said "ahhh let me out of here" and I decided it was time for the girls to have their own place without him.
I have kids and live in SoCal near the ocean. The weather is pretty nice and I know it's insane that I'm worried my girls will be cold outside. It's just that their down coat look so small...
