Chicken Math. Or "The story of how I didn't want chickens and got hooked"

Pics
Aw! They're so little! Adorable. What are you going to do with them all?

Sell them. I wasn't expecting to have so many, we usually only allow a few eggs a year to hatch to cover feed and vet costs, but someone managed to bury a nest I didn't know about so we have all these extras. :)

Nyx started crowing this morning while i was out feeding. Happy and sad about that. He's gorgeous, so I won't have any trouble relocating him, but I'll have to relocate him and find a Svart or 2 that are at point of lay to replace him.

On the flip side, we rescued 2 barred, 2 EE, 2 Delaware, and something brown (I think it's a RIR) last night form a family that was moving and had to get rid of them, All laying. Pics of them later, I want them to acclimate a bit after the stress of a move.

Nyx and Blackie off to their new home this morning. In exchange, I got a pair of 9 mos old laying Svart Hona, who I'm going to call Artemis and Asteria (Greek Goddesses of night and stars).

Bonus Charlotte checking out Nyx to make sure he's ready to go.

Gonna miss these guys, they're both stunning birds, but they're just too noisy to keep.

This is possibly the coolest pic I have ever seen. I love turts. Can't help but to respect something that lives that long.

We have plenty of soft shell, alligator snaps, and my favorite painted turts, here in the swamp. Which comprises alot of northeast FL.

Although it is extremely unhospitable to young avian creatures, like chickens, and ducks. The gypsy Muscovy duck we have, on average will have about 15 ducklings per brood. (is brood the correct terminology??) After a week there may be four left. Believe it or not bass, and catfish seem to be the main culprit. Along with red tail hawk. Im not too sure about the turtles?? I think they may eat duckling too.

Olive, our first rescue (and some kind of Maran or Maran mix) looking a whole lot better 2+ months down the road. She's laying about 4 days a week right now, nice dark eggs. Still doesn't have all her feathers back, but she's getting there.
