Chicken math prevailed!

I'm gonna have to get you and the Boss to set down for a cup of coffee :) More chickens and more tools. hehe

Haha!! Send her my way!!! I’ll tell her all the joys of how to use tools for their unintended purposes and the amazing fun little finds at HF.. all about Lowe’s clearances and sales and how she needs to learn chicken math!! 6 chick minimums mean you come home with 20.... or more.... heh...

Y’all!!!!!!! I just got the call........ new chicks in around the corner at TSC......... New. Chicks. I’ll be back with pictures of our new additions in a bit.... :wee:oops:

Hide the matches before you leave. ;)

He has lighters.

He's also on board. Lol. He knows he won't win if he argues... I'm not asking, I'm telling. He's looking forward to the future chicken dinners that will come from thinning out the flock and accidental roos. Plus all the things I'll bake with fresh eggs. Arguing just delays the inevitable. He's accepted my crazy, bless his heart.

Why do you think I call her boss? :) I have learned, from the man's point of view: "It's always better to beg forgiveness than ask permission." until the fleas in the dog house start biting. Of course, I take a spider outside, and I am back in the bed.

Lol!! Perfect. Animals are about the only thing I get to do that with.. But that's fine.. My 2 dogs, 2 cats and 24(+, soon) chickens are quite happy! We lost our Lab at the end of March and our "I'm sorry, I can't say no to this tiny little baby that they were just gunna put to sleep" mutt that was born under a friend's house was very sad.. so about a month later, we took in an 8 year old German Shepherd rescue that had been abused. Years ago, I went to the shelter to get a cat because we were having mouse problems so bad that I wanted to leave the house and let the mice have it.. I came home with two because I didn't have the heart to separate them. Now this chicken math thing.... Lol. I like animals way more than people and he knows that. He didn't have animals growing up so as much as he protests from time to time, he's a big ole softy and spoils them all way worse than I do.

Sorry about your dogs, it's tough. I have a 16+ year old that I am watching fade, my little buddy. We just got pups for the first time from him in December, still have three. It's kinda like adopting out grandchildren. We won't even post them, we wait for someone to talk about how much they love, spoil and / or miss theirs. Then we offer. If you weren't so far, I'd be asking you. Boss is very much the same, she'll complain ten minutes before she's sneaking a mutt up on the bed. :) We have 6 dogs, a cat that I had to corner to give food last winter, that now follows me like a dog when feeding the Turkeys, Ducks, Goose, Chickens, and Rabbits. LOL Yeh Chicken/Animal Math Plus a generational span of mocking birds that demand food, at the window in winter. Sleep in, nope, not allowed, October through February.

We started with 6 then I *had* to take the kids to the feed store with me and that brought home another 6, 2 of which are accidental meat birds (TSC and their mislabeled bins and employees that have never had anything to do with chickens) so technically just 4 since our 2 Cornishes will be culled in a couple of weeks now. Then I go back with the whole family because we need feed and I wanted my husband to show me what he was talking about us using for the run and, of course, we can't leave without a peeping box. Our count was at 18 total with 2 to be culled early (I'm so sad because they're so sweet!) and that was satisfying. Our coop is plenty big to handle this many and more. More. A friend calls to tell me new chicks are in and they're marking down chicks and I can't help myself, I want at least 3. So we agree to split the order. She gets them and then radio silence. For a full 24 hours. Husband sees my disappointment and can't stand it so off to TSC we go and you can't buy less than 6 so.... chicken math. 24 chicks, 3 separate brooders, plenty of love to go around. After researching so much, I'm fairly certain that out of our first 6 Australorps, only 2 are actually Australorps. Unless 4-5 week old Black Australorp juvenile feathers are barred....? So I think we're actually looking at either Cuckoo Marans or Barred Rocks as both were for sale at the same time and many were in the same bins together. I really wish that TSC would hire people during chick days who have some kind of experience with chickens. Husband is officially, lovingly, referred to as the Chicken Man around these parts. We have one specific "Australorp" that adores him. Picture for cuteness. View attachment 1882468
For now, our flock stays at 24....... until I have to go back to get feed and they end up getting something in that I just can't say no to. :th Does everyone have this problem? I can't help myself.

Aloha! Here I am ZERO experience... started with 5 plus 2 baby royal palms. A month later I added 2 RI reds, a month later 2 Plymouth Rocks & 2 Easter eggs, 2 weeks later 3 more (leghorn, black astrolorp, Orpington)! I’m at 14

See? You're getting the hang of it! And kids think math is not fun! :lau
