Chicken math question

I have a small coop with 24 square feet. I can have up to six chickens. But Do small bantams count as a full chicken?

The more space per bird, the better! If you are getting bantams (and they are wonderful) still give them that amount of space, at least. Crowded birds are stressed birds, and bad things happen.
How big is your run, and is it roofed? You will want a roof, or you will be shoveling a lot of snow! Chickens hate snow, and having them locked in their coop is more reason to have as much space as possible.

Please also consider feed dishes, water dish and nest boxes.
Mine are all inside my coop. I suggest subtracting that square footage from the total to get a more accurate measurement.

I found 24sq foot is a tight space to manage it all in but it can be done.

Although bantams can technically get away with less space than standards it is still advisable to give them the same space or more as standards. Space matters, so go big or go home.

General rule is 4 square feet per bird in the coop, but that assumes a run is available. So 4 times 6 equals 24 square feet. So for a coop that would be fine provided you meet the run minimum.

For the run the general rule is 10 square feet per bird. That would mean a 60 square foot run for 6 birds.
