Boyfriend told me we could get 6.... So we did a year ago... I've been slowly adding new chicks to the brooder every time I see them at the feed store... Hoping he won't notice. Then I just couldn't resist and did the minimum order of 15 more chicks that came a month ago.... Pretty sure he thinks I'm crazy... We now have 24... And I really want to go to the feed store right now as they just got speckled Sussex which I don't have, welsummers and easter eggers which I have.... But I'm addicted and can hardly resist

I started out ordering 10...hatchery threw in a couple extra so I started with 12. I got 6 more the next year....then 8 the next...then I gave up having a "small" flock and got 24 this year.

Oh, and then I let my broody hatch out a couple. So I now have 43.

I started out with 12, now a decade later I have around 60, and still always want more, but I shall have to wait until some pass, but that won't keep me from leaving some eggs under a banty hen at least once this season, it helps that I have 40 acres, and all my chickens free range

Welllll, we could make and sell cat toys out of our feathers...grow our own catnip for the toys...sell our compost... er.... I dunno

I'm already growing catnip for the cats. That could be dried for stuffing cat toys And my husband makes fly fishing lures out of some of the feathers.
