Chicken math

No!

I think it is interesting the way different ones of us got started. I've had chickens off and on for much of my life, but finally we were chickenless and I really didn't miss them. OK, so I had guinea fowl. Then the chicken mania was restarted with one free rooster.
Not that I'm planning what new breeds or anything I want to add next year......Whoops, how did that pop out??????

It all started with 7 dual purpose chickens.......I bet you are sorry you asked :gig

And the bird flu thing has me concerned.

I got to thinking . Chicks don't count .... So I really only have 14.... Not 114

And you might as well say the chickens are coming . You will be back in the chicken business soon lol

Chicken math is killing me! Lol. I started out wanting 6. My dad said we should get a couple extras bcz you know, there's always a few who don't make it. That brought me up to 10. Apparently I like multiples of 6,because I mis-counted and came home with 12. Another trip to the feed store resulted in 2 more that had pasty butt (that the employees weren't doing anything about). My dad kept mentioning how much he liked RIR's. Then my breeder friend called and said hey, you get 2 free chicks! (For referring my neighbor to her who bought a bunch of chicks). Just picked them up (a little black turken and a Wyandotte mix). I just counted and I have 23. I don't understand it...I was good at math in school! Lol

I am going to go to my local feed store to get some supplies for the chickens so I checked their website........oh look at that they have day old silkies!! My two silkies (that I currently have) would LOVE some friends:) We'll have to see will I or will I not come home with some silkie chicks?
So I ended up coming home with a RIR chick and a black silkie chick they're being raised by my broody partridge silkie, Bluebelle. The reason I got my RIR chick is because she dropped out of the brooder at the feed store and I picked her up (I COULD'NT JUST PUT HER BACK!!). Well that's only 2.......maybe I'm getting better?

Started out wanting 2 when I moved 3 years ago. I am up to 28 full grown chickens, 17 chicks ranging from 2-6 weeks old, 81 eggs in the incubator, and a hen sitting on 8 eggs. People think I am crazy.

You're not crazy! When the avian flu decimates all the factory chickens and eggs, who is going to be the one laughing? That's right, you! :D

6 weeks ago went to TSC to get some chicks. I got 6, one died a few days later. A week ago I found out that my chicks are cornish cross. :(
Yesterday went to the Flea Market and got 3 Barred Rocks. Wanted 6 but she had just 3. They are 3 weeks and so cute. She had other breeds to (and they were so cute) but i want to get a Roo and don't want to have mixed breed chicks when i let some of my eggs hatch next spring.

ok is this what everyone calls chicken math...I had to cull my 1st sick hen... husband felt bad so we went feed store to "look" came home with 4 new chicks...... cull 1=4 babies?? :yesss:

This is my newest attempt...I have an OCD complex with the number 4...4 geese, 4 runner ducks, 4 Cochin, 4 EE, 4 Wyandotte, 4 guinea...you get the drift....well, I only have 3 Silkies, 2 red Stars, 2 Ancona, and 3 Buttercups...so I asked DH if I could trade 3 BR (I have 7) for another Silkie, 2 RedStars, 2 Ancona and a buttercup.... (Raising his eyebrow), "That doesn't add up..."... Chicken math!!! :D

Started with all Amber Stars. I was happy with that till I discovered brahmas, orpingtons, and australorps. Now I'm at 15, and still looking for more! I love having a mixed flock. ;)

And the more breeds you get, the more new breeds you'll discover you want to try. There's always that next breed out there....next year Three more breeds I want to try a few of. . Did I say that???
