And my new chicken math.... Two of my eleven were caught by my dogs. I cried and cried. My husband sent me to the feed store to replace them... So I got 5... And THEN.... The breeds I REALLY wanted came in and I got 6 more. Now I have 20. Which is city limit here. 11-2=20 right?!?!
How many do you have as of today ?When I first came to this forum, I was thinking, how hard is it to get chickens and do simple math? I started out wanting to get 6 chickens, 3 rir's and 3 bo's, which I am still waiting to pick up next Fri. So then I found a guy down the road from me that has some barred rock's and some wyandonette's. I only wanted 6, mind you, but now it's looking more like 10-12 of them, and I havent even got started yet. If it's this hard to just get started, I can imagine how it would be for most of you that are already raising them. I will say that 12 will be my definite limit.....so far.
Silkies don't count as more chickens right?!?!![]()

I went to buy feed today and got there as a shipment came in.![]()
Since they are chicks not full grown chickens of course they cannot count. Then there is the fact that one or both may be male so since males do not count (when it comes to counting chickens of course) they cannot count. AND of course silkies are bantam so again even if both were females that would only add up to one small chicken when and only when they are laying. (Pullets cannot count either)
SO .....
2 chicks - 2chicks (due to unknown sex) - up to one additional chicken (due to being bantam) - 2 even if they are female since they are not laying =
YOU NEED MORE CHICKS
(due to being in the negative according to the math above)
I am thinking 5 additional chicks could put you breaking even (maybesee math above lol males, bantams, pullets etc... not counting)
And you only bought 2!!!!
