DE is irrelevant in my opinion and completely ineffective in MY area with high humidity. My friends husband a mile or so down the road insists on using it yet they had to treat when I picked up one of their birds and clearly showed them egg sacks on the feather shafts. We have very mild temperatures and lice thrive in winter here.Yes, she is laying well, she is 10 months. Thanks for the tips, I’ll go check tonight with a flash light. I have been adding diatomaceous earth to their coop and bathing areas so I was hopeful that would be sufficient enough to keep mites off of them.
It almost looks like the feathers are broken? I don’t really seen pin feathers.
I’ll keep a close eye on her!
But I do actually agree with the others who posted after me... in that I have seen the same thing with other birds grooming them especially when I used to ferment my feed, just forgot that possibility. But her skin does not look red and irritated as it might if the issue were parasites.
