Chicken missing

I had a pair of raccoons come on my back porch in broad daylight and try to get my cockatoo. They opened the screen door and the bottom door of his cage before my dogs alerted me. They hung around for a few days and were very brazen until my DH gave them a serious talking to. I haven't seen them since, but I am always on the look out.

Wow glad you had your watch dog around. I keep thinking a raccoon is the culprit. They are too smart for there own good.
WOW!! same thing happend to me not long ago, but with nine of my chickens!!
I dont think it was a ratcoon that set off the trap , it was definatley a cat if you have one, I have very smart ferral cats doing that.
And if you have any coons around, I've trapped lots of those by my coop, in four nights I trapped three of them, with the trap in the same place the whole time....behind my coop, make sure you keep your traps out for more then just one night, you could find a solution! Also, if you have a day problem.... I might be able to help, HAWKS, I have hawks, terky voltures, and big birds like that!
someone on another site sugested something really cool, she built her coop, (with a run) and put net over the run so no bird preditors could get in...... I thought this was cool! oh, and if you dont have a run and decied to build one....make sure nothing can dig under it and get to the chickens, like a snake!

I hope this somewhat helps!!!!
Do you think hawks would be around a bunch of crows like that though? We do have a couple pairs of red tail hawks around. Honestly I dont have any expreience with hawks but the job seemed a bit messy for a raptor? maybe not.

your right I need to get a net set up over my run. This will be my next project I believe.

I will be baiting the next couple nights and will let you guys know what I catch. Thanks for your help.

Has anyone heard of crows attacking chickens?
