Chicken mite?

Hi all,

Is this a chicken mite? This is my first time owning chickens, and a few days after some rain, these appeared on my chickens and sometimes on me after I'm in the kennel outside...

This thread has information on using liquid permethrin. You can probably get it at TSC, or a similar store. If you want to use the dust, you might find that at TSC or a garden store, as it is also used for dusting plants.
I agree permethrin works great but you have to do repeat treatments weekly for 3 or 4 weeks because it does not kill the mites eggs but will as they hatch out. I spray everywhere in the coops, every crack and crevice. I also use the poultry dust in the nest boxes. There is no egg withdrawal period so the eggs are safe to eat. Good luck...

Thanks all. Upon closer inspection. I think I see a lot more in the run than on the chickens and coop. Should the run be sprayed, too? The run also has some tree stumps...

I sprayed the chickens but only noticed a few on them. Probably because I sprayed them during the day. The coop is pretty dark even in the day, though.
 
Do the spraying at night while they are roosting, using a small flashlight or head lamp. The coop can be sprayed during the day, but doing the birds is easiest at night.
We are dealing with them right now too, miserable little critters that they are. The wild birds bring them...
