Chicken mites/lice

Please anyone having info on a good home remedy for mites or lice would be appreciated. Also if note a home remedy are there any treatments that aren't as dangerous as the bugs. We are concerned with possible negative effects to birds as well as humans.[/b]

If you want to bathe all of your birds, it will kill off a lot of the bugs and remove some of the eggs, but since mites spend most of their time off the bird in the coops, I don't know of any way to get rid of them except a full on attack with a permethrin based spray or a powder like sevin. IMO, the bugs are much worse than the pesticides because they will kill your birds and multiply like crazy. I know there are some old time remedies like tobacco etc., so you can probably find some of them with a search.
