A few of my mutts taken this week

Poor Rudy. How is he getting along? Do the other chickens see him as odd, do you think? Do they peck him? Are all the dark spots on him bruises from that maybe? Henryetta Georgia? How hot is it there? Do you have to keep him out of the sun? He's survived this long.....how old is he now? I think the Austin heat would have cooked him? Sorry for so many questions Kassaundra, I'm too curious! Your "mutts" with the top knots sure are cute! : ) beverly

Rudy is doing great, feisty and right there in the mix w/ all the chickens. No they don't seem to see him any differently they interact w/ him just like any other, he has won his fair share of dominance "tufts" These chickens do much better in heat then almost any other, he does need access to shade like any other chicken would though. He has not had any sunburn issues at all. No the dark spots are not bruises. He carries fm gene too (fibromelitic dark skin / flesh / bone / organs) He was much darker at hatch he has lightened as he has gotten older (a lot of fm boys do) those freckles are what is left from his fm

She is pretty. And I'd love to keep her. I just hope she does end up being a "she".

I've hatched quite a few chicks with the same white with stripes on feathers that had no chance of Barred lineage.
Especially in mixed flocks, there's no telling how many recessive genes there are floating around. Lots of ways to get that chick, I would suspect your Orps.

NN are excellent layers, and mothers, good dual purpose meaty, and easier to process b/c of the fewer feathers and no hair. They take the heat like champs. Even tempered not very flighty

There are several varieties that have the fm pigmentation silkie and Sumatra are two of the more popular here, many are from the orient or India. I don't know a lot about genetics at all, just the very narrow part I deal with in my flock.

I am a mixed chick. My mom has some sebright, after that it is a huge mix up as both my parents were mutts also!
