Chicken "mutt" club!!!

Well, its been very cold up here in Canada. I didn't want to chance it. They weren't finished feathering out until they were almost 5 weeks old. I suppose they might have been ok. Ehhh...judgment call. Now I gotta build a partition in main coop so they can join the big kids later. Got to free up some space & keep more chicks coming. Lol!

i did not know you were in canada... that makes sence that u kept them there an not out in the cold........ i think its funny that are chickens r almost the same age.. i wonder whos will lay the frist egg?????

Hard to say, lol! The Silver Grays took forever to lay. I have a theory most of my chicks are boys! Ack! The black & white ones might be pullets though. Time will tell!

They just might join my heritage meat flock. I may keep one as a future mutt breeder though. I like that a couple of them aren't developing big combs like their mom. A nice cold hardy trait! I should get a pic of her. She's hatchery stock, so probably a mutt!

Well the one I have posted is my mutt.
I don't have a rooster so can't make all these weird and wonderful creations like all of you and people around were I am are not to creative and are all into Pure Breeds.
When I do get a working rooster i can assure you there will be chicks everywhere of all origins!

I can appreciate both sides though. Mutts are fantastic for variety, and I would like to raise a few pure breeds, just to keep them from extinction!

Yeah my whole flock of 25 birds consists of Pure Breeds ( Except my lovely Sex-Links ) as you can't get to many mutt were I am and everyone around here has got the Bantam Bug ( EVERYTHING is Bantam ).
I sell my eggs so can't get to many banties as I cannot sell their eggs.
I have 1 WLH rooster on the way and hopefully an Araucana, so mutts will come don't you worry!lol!

I understand both sides too having a nice pure breed would be nice... But I love my mutts

The hen in top pic is mom. The bottom one is her sister. I would rather have a practical bird than an SOP bird. But that's just my opinion.
