Idk how there can be such mystery surrounding a handful of chickens, but my very favorite hen has been playing tricks on me. She is an escape artist. She used to fly the coop every single day. She went back in to roost every night. Then one day I couldn't find her. I waited another day then started to mourn her loss. Then I saw her in the yard the next day. Yay! She hadn't been gotten by another critter like I thought. But then she was gone again. 2 days and she was back, but she didn't sleep with her flock anymore. Well today I was out feeding everybody and she just appeared out of nowhere. But this time I was still close enough to do a little tracking. I FOUND THIS!! A nest full of eggs! She has been hiding and sitting on these for maybe 2 weeks. I don't think they're fertilized, since she wasn't staying in the coop with the roosters. But I'll probly snitch a few to candle a little later. When there are no grandkids to follow behind me and disturb things. I'm just so happy to have found her reason for disappearing. She's only 8 months old. I guess I didn't think chickies that young would get broody. Altho I did wonder why I wasn't getting any eggs! Lol
