What would be around the same size and temperament as a silkie. Really do like the silkies they remind me of Phyllis Diller and the huge feathered hats she would wair. Can you recommend any other breed that lays eggs and is a smaller chicken that I could look into?

Cochin bantams would be an excellent companion birds to Silkies. They have the same sweet temperament as the Silkies, and will get along very well with them. Also, among standard breeds, I found that Polish (which tend to get picked on by other standard breeds due to their crests) do very well with Silkies.
