Hello,
I am relatively new to chickens, there were a little flock of Leghorns that free ranged on farm I lived on when I was young, but they belonged to the farm and I just fed them occasionally (they were awesome hens tho! They were ex hatchery and had to learn how to walk at first (this was in the 90's) but when they did they were such amazing foragers!)
Currently: we have just incubated our first eggs (a dozen from ebay), 8 developed but then our new incubator malfunctioned. We had to find a replacement and really didn’t think any eggs would hatch but 3 did
Our chicks are 7 weeks now (and honestly now they are growing I am quite relieved we didn’t end up with 8 for our first time lol)
I’m not sure what breed they are, they were supposed to be speckled sussex but one is black and white (a little week one, maybe a little rooster we think), another is looking like a light sussex and the 3rd may be a speckle lol. But we adore them all.
I love their behaviours and find them so loveable and entertaining. I love gardening so I can’t wait until they are bigger and can start getting out in the garden with me (doing digging and bug control duties).
Other pets: We have two german shepherd dogs. One is amazing with them and watches over them and is very gentle, the other stares at them intently drooling profusely (so still some training to do there!)
Really looking forward to being part of the community
