Welcome. You did a great job of avoiding a mistake many make and that I made twice before getting it right...you are building your coop and staying away from pre-manufactured coops. It is my opinion that the two most important aspects for a coop is ventilation and predator protection. Use hardware cloth for both - covering open ventilation and making an apron for your coop.

We have a lot of scrap lumber and there are a lot of neighborhoods going up in our town and the contractors let us take anything they are going to throw away so it’s going to be cheaper for us to build!
