If I could offer a small nugget of info... READ about keeping a flock of chickens! Ther is such a wealth of info at the library and online that it boggles the mind. I made the decision to try it in 10/09 and have devoured 6 books on chicken rearing including "Raising Chickens for Dummies"! I lurked and then registered at BYC, hit every link they had consumed the complete range of topics on chickens (clueless about other birds, though). I feel pretty confident that I can adequately be a successful farmer of chickens. My family accuses me of being addicted to "Chicken Porn" and are close to an intervention. They better hurry as my chicks are shipped on 2/17/10!
