Chicken not laying eggs.

I have a rooster and a hen that I've had here for several weeks. They havent tried mating as far as I can tell until the other day. I thought hens had to be laying eggs before that happens. Theyre kept in the coop and theres been no eggs.

Hens take a bit of time to adjust to new places before they'll lay eggs. Roosters don't.
And good roosters wait until hens are mature enough to lay eggs before they start mating. If she is mature, then the above behaviour is perfectly normal.

Also if they are only a few months old your rooster will mature before the hens mine started laying shortly after he got his hormones

Roosters can be very horny!! Make sure the rooster isn't hurting your hen. They can be rough. With only having the one hen, he may over mate with her.

He was around my big rooster(Red) the other day. Red was on a huge mating frenzy so i didnt know if maybe my little rooster saw Red and thought, "hmmm... maybe ill try that". Or if the little hen was laying somewhere that im not seeing.

Roosters can be very horny!! Make sure the rooster isn't hurting your hen. They can be rough. With only having the one hen, he may over mate with her.

I have 4 other hens. These 2 are silver laced Wyandotte batams.

Did the 'frenzy' start after your brought in the new male and female?
How old are the new birds?

Each rooster should have several hens it is possible for them to overdo it and kill the girls especially being a young cockerel. I have one and eleven girls and he is nonstop. All my girls are missing a bunch of feathers I can't imagine if there was only a couple. Also keep an eye they don't start fighting over the small number of girls. You will just have to see what's best for your flock over time. Who knows that might be enough for him and it might not. Good luck. I am sure you'll do fine

The new birds are about 10 or 11 months maybe. Red( hes over a year old) is 3 times bigger than the rooster and hen batams. So i didnt think the mating thing would be an issue since the hen is too small for Red to mate with and my other hens are too big for my batam rooster to mate with.
