Chicken coop
One of my Americana chickens has stopped laying. It’s in the early winter months now and she is about a year old. Almost all the other chickens are molting including her and at first I thought it was just that she didn’t have the energy to molt and lay simultaneously. But it’s been several months now since we got an egg from her which is abnormal since the other chickens are still laying while molting and she is only a year old. What’s wrong with her? Anyone know?

Most hens stop laying completely during the molt, so in my experiences it's unusual if they continue to lay while molting.
Whew, this is good to know!

There's a discussion someone started with a long list of questions on molting. I've never really understood this process and wasn't expecting my eight month old hens to molt so soon. No eggs for a while now.

Hopefully this is why your hen hasn't been laying.

Glad I don't have to worry about temps :) but we do deal with shorter days. My 4 BOs have still been giving us eggs daily but today is a different story. It's been raining for the past 2wks (yes, 2wks), have had to shovel out 3 wheelbarrow full of wet shavings (water wicking up from the ground). It was still dark at 7am I woke them up when I went to feed them. Don't think I'll be getting eggs today, it's 11am & none yet. I'm ok with it but sure wish the Sun would come out to play :(
