I have talked to Ed on the phone. He is now a member of BYC and is lurking and watching. He thanks you all for the support and input. He has sent a very heart felt letter to Cesar Millan asking for his supprt to help establish a dog park dog and dog owner education to help eleviate the dog problem. He is a very nice guy and in his letter outlined how he and his family have been tormented by dogs. His kids can't play outside. He has brittle bone disease and can't risk being knocked down by a dog if he tries to stop it from tormenting the chickens and turkeys. The letter is very good. I am reviewing a few of his e-mails to establish which parts should and should not be published in the forum. He is such a nice person that he is doing something for the dog owners. He is actively trying to help them get a dog park, something they have been too lazy to do themselves. I believe that he cares more about the dogs roaming on his property than the owners do. Please be aware that there is a lot more to the story. A LOT MORE!!! I doubt that even the most passive BYCers would not have taken the same action if they had been faced with this dangerous situation.
There but for the grace of God goes any one of us chicken keepers.
Not all dogs are created equal. They are predators. Dogs in the company of their masters can behave very differently than they do when nobody is in charge and they are running with a pack mentality. No breed is immune to this. Even if you consider your dog "your baby," you must always remember that the "baby" might behave quite dangerously when running amok. And, if you have only had "the baby" for a month, you certainly don't know if it has a dark side yet. All I can say is that I don't think Ed ran out "guns ablazin" trying to kill a dog, and I don't think that the dogs were the kind of "little darlings" you want around your kids and animals.
