Yes, I think we are all trying to access the web site ate once. Oh no! We crashed Oregon's web site. Actually some places have "corporate city limits" and "satellite city limits." It all depends on the state statutes and/or county regs.

The one and ONLY fact that we know and the one and only fact that can’t be argued is that the dog owner was in violation of the LAW and the dog was on someone else’s private property.

The dog owner possessed the dog for only ONE month! How could that dog have been trained to be off leash in such a short amount of time spent with this owner? Irresponsible. If the dog was on leash or properly trained to be at the owner’s side, THIS WOULD NOT HAVE happened.

As a property owner and a dog owner, I am confused as to how some people think it is somehow “OK” to tolerate having a strange dog on your land.

Why do you think it is OK to let your dog come on my land?
It is my land, and I don’t want strange dogs on it.
Why should I trust a strange dog?
Why should I wait to see what the dog does around my pets, live stock or child?
I know I don’t stand back to see if my fence is going to hold back a dog, fox or coyote, they shouldn’t even be sniffing my fence in the first place.

The rights of the property owners are being taken away by the same people that think we should just SHOOOOO the dogs away with our arms or sticks. I won’t take a knife to a gun fight, just like I won’t take my dull/weak teeth and trimmed finger nails to a dog fight. Thank GOD I don’t live in the city and that I can legally shoot a firearm on my land. Around here, good fences make for good neighbors.

Could someone 'out west' explain to this easterner how your town/cities are marked out? Someone on this link said they live in a community with 350 people and it is called a city! How is that?

Example: I live in a town of 19,000 people. It is considered a town. It was incorporated in 1790. My town borders the town where I grew up, (incorperated 1667,btw). There is no space in between. The border of one town is the border of the next town. How does it work in other parts of the country?

Sorry if this if off-topic, but it is hard to visualize what you are talking about since it is so different from over here.

It's the name. As in "City of Name" out here a city can have 50 families, as long as they agree to incorporate and fill out the paperwork. I live next to a city of 800, 350, and 650.

Planning on moving to a "city" 10 miles S of here population 250, and it "covers" 10sq miles.

Here's the smallest "city" I can think of nearby.

Our neighbors bird dog thinks it's fine to come to our yard and spend the day. We yell and holler and our Blue Heeler will herd him back to the property line but he just keeps coming back. That's one of the main reasons for a run and not allowing our chickens to free range. We could teach our dog not to harm the chickens but a BIRD DOG? I think not. We have 80 acres but still can't do what we want. Amazing isn't it?

Oh, and the way I interpret the corporate city limits ordinance in OR is in regards to public property. I think the right of Mr Harris to defend his private property will trump the "firing a weapon with in city limits" issue. At least, it would in most place of the country...OR however is out on the left coast so it will be interesting to see if that elusive creature we call "common sense" will rule out or not.

Oh, in case there was any doubt, I support Mr Harris and anyone else for that matter who determines their property is being threatened and decides to defend it the best way they know how. I know I would. I put too much time and effort and MONEY into building up MY life, MY livelihood and MY breeding stock to allow anything - man or beast - to destroy it. It's MINE and I have the right to defend MY stuff. If someone else wants to pay my bills and fulfill my responsibilities lock stock and barrel, then they can dictate how I behave. But until then, I'll do with my stuff how I see fit.

And, yep, it's considered a city. They have a city hall complete with an elected mayor and city council, plus a fire station, a police station, a library, a post office, a city park/pavilion complete with walking trails and a playground, our own elementary school, a big new county EMS building, etc.. Heck, we've got a grocery store (now with gas pumps!), a gas station/convenient store, a bank, a mechanic's garage, a video rental place, a tanning salon, a barber shop, two hair salons, a sit-down restaurant, a pharmacy, a family clinic with a real live doctor, two small bakeries, an antique/knicknack store, a hardware store, a lumber store, a welding shop, a 16,000sqft CNC/machining factory, three smaller tool & die shops, a funeral home.... I'm pretty sure I'm leaving some stuff out, but you get the drift..

All I want to Know is why some dog owners (pet owners this includes pet farm animals) can not be responsible for there animals, they are allowed to run/roam at will, but when something happens to them its always someone or something else's fault and they are the victim, even though they are the irresponsible party. Those that follow the law are always made to pay for those who don't, its part of our society, i know but it just does not feel right.
