I think that if any prosecutors were to read through BYC they wouldn't have to read too many posts to realize just how dangerous loose dogs are and how heartbreaking rogue dog attacks are. They wouldn't have to read too many posts to realize that chickens can be beloved pets. They wouldn't have to read too many posts to know that whenever somebody says to do something illegal or extreme that they are chastised by the majority. They wouldn't have to read too many posts to figure out that the trolls take posts out of context and twist them around to be jerks. They would not have to read too many posts to figure out that loose dogs are bad and their owners are worse. Heck, if that prosecutor has spent any time at all on BYC, he is probably already hooked and too busy getting ready for his order of chicks to arrive from the hatchery to worry about anything else.

I support Mr. Harris 100% as I believe the vast majority of BYC does, also.

Great posts WalkingWolf!

I am leaving today for a big dog show in San Antonio. My little girl
CH Hartagold Maggie May CGC earned her AKC conformation championship Sunday at a big Dallas show! I'm SO proud of her.

I will post a picture next week when I get back after I figure out how. In the appropriate section, of course.

I know this thread will still be open when I get back next Monday and I will be able to catch up and continue my support of Mr. Harris.

You want to know how I know that?

Because the vast majority (once again) of BYC folks are really nice, caring, regular people who want to see justice done in Mr. Harris' case.

Jody, I know and agree 100% but............ they sometimes only highlight the worst and cast things about in that light.

Like I said, it's not that I believe it or agree 100% with paul, but he just highlighted some of the zanier stuff chicken owners in the P&P forums have done in the last week or two. Shoot, all I was saying was consider what the other side is thinking. Thats why my kids cant beat me in chess

Please see the Predators and Pests area guidelines here. Feedback about the forum and its operation should be directed to the BYC Staff via the PM system or e-mail.

Let's get this thread back on topic. It's been derailed enough.

Thanks. ~Lisa~

I don't know if this has been pointed out yet but it is my belief (after reading the article re Mr Harris), that he has been charged with "animal abuse and discharging a FIREARM within city limits". Considering that the weapon used was an air rifle and by defenition, a FIREARM is "a weapon capable of firing a projectile by means of an EXPLOSIVE device", I figure that since an air rifle falls outside of this definition that that charge in particular is null and void.
Hope that helps.

Chris.

The city ordinance lists air rifles as firearms, however, there is an exception to the law if you are protecting your property.

Redmond city code

5.025 Discharge of Weapons.
1. No person other than an authorized peace officer or Airport personnel (designated by
the Airport Manager) controlling animals on the airport, or Public Works employee
(designated by the Public Works Director) exterminating burrowing animals at the
cemetery shall fire or discharge any gun or other weapon, including spring or airactuated
pellet guns, or a weapon which propels a projectile by use of a bow or sling,
explosives, or jet or rocket propulsion.
2. The provisions of this section shall not be construed to prohibit firing or discharging any
weapon by any person in the lawful defense or protection of his property, person or
family
or at any duly licensed firing range.
3. A violation of this section is punishable as a Class A misdemeanor.

Chris, though I agree with you 100%, states and local communities can make their own laws descriptions of firearms. A few years back the police in Durham NC arrested two youths for discharging firearms. The firearms in question were paintball guns they were shooting at each other on their own property.

Even in Mr. Harris case had he discharged a firearm, by SCOTUS he has the the right to violate laws and ordinances to defend his family and property. We will have to see how far Mr. Harris is willing to take this if it should go awry. I will try to find the ruling, it actually had to do with a felon using a firearm to defend his family and was then charged. Any jurisdiction cannot use laws to remove your basic rights to self defense and protection of property.

Start on page one and you'll get the whole story, it's too complicated to summarize.

As for this (I am a huge defender of the Second Amendment):

I'd be very interested in reading that case, if you find it.
