I have a pet rooster and yesterday he started acting really weird. It looked like he swallowed his tongue in and then his legs got really stiff and he passed out. I was really scared and I blew some air into his beak and fed him some glucose water and he seemed okay. Also, he hadn't been eating properly for the last three days so I thought maybe that's what caused it. He ate some food after the entire thing and he seemed okay. He was walking around and he crowed a couple of times and he was perfectly fine. But the same thing happened today again and after feeding him some water he seemed fine. He is around 4.5 years old and he has not had any other problems as such. He is okay jumping up to things higher but he struggles to get down. He sometimes also tends to fall forward. His legs go really behind and he just tumbles forward. I've attached a picture for that. He also tends to close his eyes for a while randomly but otherwise, he seems okay.

It does sound like a seizure which does happen in some chickens. So, is he walking normally most of the time between these seizures, and eating/drinking okay? I would get some vitamin E 400 IU pearls, and give him one each day orally or in some food, in case that might help any neurological problem. Do you think he could have gotten into some type of poison or molded feed or corn?

He is walking normally most of the time. He drinks a lot of water and he has also been eating well. He is mostly indoors but because of the lockdown for the past few days, we have started to leave him out in the street with some other chicken for a bit every day so they can walk around and bask in the sun. He may have eaten something off but I couldn't tell you for sure.

I've answered your question above and I've also attached a picture. I've also got him started on the Vitamin E capsules. That's when he started to tumble. I've attached a picture with the post if it helps. Thank you. I really appreciate any help right about now.

It is really hard to know what is causing the seizure-like behavior. With chickens, most of the time we never know what is affecting them sometimes until they die, and a necropsy by a poultry pathologist is performed. And most of the threads I have read about chickens with seizures are incomplete. Let us know how he gets along or if he develops other symptoms. Vets treat other animals with phenobarbital for seizures, but I don’t know if any treat chickens that way.
