Chicken pluckers: do they work? Are they worth the $?

I read with Ducks putting a little dawn dish-washing liquid in the scalding pot makes them pluck easier. Cuts through the natural waterproofing.

I tried that but it didn’t seem to help much. I also soaked the bird with the water hose before scalding. The plucker got a few of the body feathers but no wing or tail feathers. I also had to hard pluck all the pin feathers. I might try the wax method next time for those. If the skin wasn’t so good I’d just skin them.
 
Ducks are harder, period. If you don't hit one of the three (I think it is) "proper" times for butchering, they're even harder.
