Chicken Poo

I don't think the oil in water will do much good. Since oil would float on the water, the bird wouldn't be swallowing nearly enough. If you want to oil treat the entire flock, I would mix up some of their crumbles with oil mixed in.

If you can find coconut oil that is unrefined with the nice coconut flavor still in it, you can put a cup of it into a bowl and let them eat it straight. They love the flavor.

Also, if you suspect all the chickens are developing sour crop, you can treat the entire flock with copper sulfate in the water. You may need to order it as it's not usually found in stores. Get the acidified copper sulfate for poultry.

Here is another picture of her poo.

Yes, tough hay and grass stems can be a big problem. Usually chickens go for the tender bits, but once in a while, you get a chicken that wolfs down the tough, long stems and those are nearly impossible for a crop and gizzard to deal with. Have you ever tried putting celery stalks down a garbage disposal? The blade only make a tangled mess out of it. That's how a crop and gizzard fails to deal with stringy stuff.

When you get that sort of clog in a chicken crop, sometimes surgery is the only way to clean it out.

Ugh! I guess I will stay away from giving my birds hay too.
