Hey friends! I was sitting outside to supervise the integration between my 6.5 week girls and my 2.5 week girls, and I notice my Barnevelder (6.5 weeks) pooped completely clear, it looked just like water. Is this a cause for concern? For context, I’m in TX and it has been very hot all week. The big girls have lived in the outdoor coop for the past week, with an hour of supervised integration time on the lawn every day or so.

If it's really hot, my girls do the same because they are drinking so much more water. I think they're ok. Just keep an eye on behavior. As long as they are acting as per usual. You might want to add electrolytes to their water.

Thank you! That was what I was hoping, I just web-dvmed myself into a parasite or some other horrible problem. I really appreciate this community!

It goes right thru them!

This is what I do to help them beat the heat.
I give a dose of Sav-a-Chick electrolytes/vitamins about once a week during heat waves.
It really seems to help....started this after they saved a heat stroked hen once.
Can mix up a smaller amount, just wrap the packet tight and store in a dry cool place.
Always have plain water available too.

BIG(9x14x2") chunks of ice last all day for wading, sitting, and sipping.
Much more useful to the chickens than frozen foods and treats.

Thanks! They get some overgrown zucchini from my garden with breakfast and I leave them frozen fruits when it hits 95-ish, so hopefully that is enough vitamins and minerals for now. They seem to be adjusting well, they are pretty active and eat and drink a lot even when it is hot—I was just concerned about the appearance of the poop. It helps that their coop has lots of ventilation and all day shade I think.

I’m definitely keeping some of these tricks in my back pocket for the heat waves that are going to come in July and August!

Well, this stuff is probably diluting the nutrition of their regular feed....
....and may also be loosening their poops

The majority of their poops are normal-looking brown lumps with white caps. I just worry about their hydration when I see them panting, so I try to give them treats with higher water content + vitamins on those days. :)
