Chicken poop vs allergic dog

Be thankful the dogs don't roll in the poop. That also is a very "doggie" thing. For being such paragons of charm and intelligence, dogs sure are capable of some pretty disgusting behavior. But I suppose you could say that about humans, too.
Ugh.... she does that too... rolls in poop, dead things, rotting things, anything that stinks to high heaven she rolls in. I bathe her often... :th

A lot of times dogs and other animals eat poop to try to get the vitamins and minerals they are missing in their diet. You can get your dog a childrens chewable since she is big enough. It is very hard to get dogs to stop eating poop once the habit is formed, but the vitamin could help too. I know dogs that ate poop and dirt and stopped completely once they got vitamins. Good Luck

Does grain-free chicken feed exist?
Cons would be: probably hard to get/expensive if it exist at all, and fails to address WHY the dog is eating the chicken poop.
Pros would be: a relatively quick fix of the immediate itching issue, giving you a little peace to figure out better solutions for the long term.

I use a pitchfork & metal garden take to turn over the chicken yard, then level it. Leveling it gives me a sense of accomplishment. However, it gives my girls a desire to dig to China, kicking dirt everywhere, making holes and keeping the place looking like the craters on the moon! No matter how many times I try to warn them not to go to China ("they eat chickens there...you better stop digging ya nut") they keep digging! It's part of their charm.

Turning over the dirt & chicken bombs might help you both...

I would think red pepper would really cause dog farts. The chickens wouldn't care either way since they have no receptors for peppers.

Nutritional imbalances can cause all sorts of strange cravings in humans and animals. Both humans and animals, including chickens, can suffer from pica, a compulsion to eat dirt and gravel including metal objects, for example. Eating poop must be satisfying something this dog is lacking.

While you work on finding the right supplements for your little shit eater, keeping the dogs and chickens separated might not be a bad idea.

On the other hand, having a four-legged poop "vacuum" has a certain irresistible appeal. :gig
I’m gonna get a muzzle for mine while I take him outside

I’m in a predicament. I want to free range my birds. And my dogs are loose too, we live on 5 acres and the dogs do not have a fenced yard so naturally, when the chickens are out they mingle and inevitably the chickens poop, everywhere.

One of my dogs is VERY allergic to grains. She will itch, and itch and itch and itch and itch.... etc for the next 48hours and risk skin flare ups and ear infections too.
She also LOVES CHICKEN POOP! :barnie Chicken food and later chicken poop is full of grains (duh). And her itching is DRIVING. US. NUTS.

Is there anything I can feed the chickens that makes their poop unpalatable to a dog? :sick

Picture of the culprit, probably with a tummy full of chicken poop. :th
