should I euthanize her? Or just make her comfortable and wait to see what happens? I’d hate to see her suffer. I tried calling the vet but they couldn’t get her in for about 2 weeksLooks like a lash egg, which sadly means she has salpingitis, its an infection of the oviduct. Its hard to treat unless caught early, and since she laid that size of a lash egg I don't think there's much you can do other than offer support.
The sour crop is probably a symptom of salpingitis.
Well, how's her behavior? Is she lethargic at all?should I euthanize her? Or just make her comfortable and wait to see what happens? I’d hate to see her suffer. I tried calling the vet but they couldn’t get her in for about 2 weeks![]()
Well I noticed she was limping really bad and that was the original reason I separated her, so her leg could heal about 3 days ago. I just found out she has sour crop today, and now this. She has been laying down with her eyes closed and beak open often.Well, how's her behavior? Is she lethargic at all?
Aw, poor girl.Well I noticed she was limping really bad and that was the original reason I separated her, so her leg could heal about 3 days ago. I just found out she has sour crop today, and now this. She has been laying down with her eyes closed and beak open often.
Do you have Marek's disease in your flock?Well I noticed she was limping really bad and that was the original reason I separated her, so her leg could heal about 3 days ago. I just found out she has sour crop today, and now this. She has been laying down with her eyes closed and beak open often.
i don’t think i do, all of my other chickens are acting fine! how would i be able to tell?Do you have Marek's disease in your flock?
If she's not up and eating on her own I would not let her suffer too long if I were you.
she can walk on it slightly and does curl her toesYes, I agree, that she has laid a lash egg. Some hens may live awhile with salpingitis, while others may not. A lot depends on how long it has been going on with the inflammation of her oviduct. Some use an antibiotic such as amoxillin daily for 10 days, while some prefer not to. There is no guarantee that it will help, but it could if it is early. I would keep her comfortable offering mushy foods (feed mixed with water, a little scrambled watery egg) and treat the sour crop.
Consider using a chicken sling if she will tolerate one. She can sleep out of it and have rest periods on the floor. But they are good for keeping food within reach and allowing the leg to heal.Is she moving the leg or curling her toes around your finger?
