Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

Congrats on the new birds Mrs. Fluffy Puffy!
Congrats on all the eggs coming in Linda!

I am very proud of myself. I have put away the incubator and I haven't touched it since. I cleaned all the chick dust from my house and put all my brooders away. All my chicks are now out in grow out pens in the coop.

I do have one little package coming today that may contain some babies.

I had to order some girls for my little duck gang. I will rehome 2 of my drakes and then I will have a nice little group of 6 girls and 2 boys. Sooo I will pass on the cuteness when the post office calls me. It should be 3 blue swedish girls and 2 cayuga girls.

I had put mine away but had to get it out again. I have a broody and juuuust in case she doesn't hatch out any chicks I have 12 BO eggs in the bator - candled them today and all 12 are developing! Ack. Just what I need. They'll hatch out the week after my broody is due, so if she's unsuccessful those will be hers. I don't need any more chicks!

I think your adult well behaved dogs are very pretty.

My dad had a german shepherd when I was just a tiny girl and it always knocked me over with it's tail. That is all I remember about it.

Funny you say that, cause we always had Black Labs when I was little and they knocked me over. I just remember a black flash and then the sky, lol.

I found out just minutes ago that my wife is very dangerous alone with a check book at an animal swap meet, (her first). She comes home with 2, yes 2 Rat Terrier puppies

I will NEVER leave her alone at one again. I had just got rid of all my extra chicks and eggs and boom two puppies.

What a trip...

Went to pick up the Sussex this morning. They told me the Coronation Sussex were from Green Fire Farm and some other awesome breeder, and the Light Sussex were from someother breede. Anyway, I just can't tell you how Gorgeous and what an awesome deal I got on these guys/gals!

I think two of the Coronation Sussex hens just finished their first molt, and the other 6 hens were 5 1/2 - 6 months old. I'm going to take some pictures later on, but they're really stressed out right now, so I'm just leaving them alone. While I was there he asked me if I wanted a free chicken, I of course said "Sure!" He told me when they'd gone out of town they came home and their chickens had pecked on of their Buff Orpington hens on the side of the head, so they had to keep her separate from the other chickens so she wouldn't get bullied. Anyway, the hen is going to be giant, and she is from stright from Jody's lines. Shes just a doll. She also gave the kids two CA rabbits for free. So we're going to have baby bunnies in a few months b/c they gave them a male and a female!

They also had Lemon Cuckoo Orps!

They had bought two females and they were expecting a pair in the mail very soon, they said they'd spent over $1,000 for those 4 chickens, and he said told me if I would call him in about 3 months he would give me some Lemon Cuckoo chicks!!!

I was doing so good today, but then I had a little RELAPSE!!!!!!

I had a garage sale today and sold or gave away 14 chickens! I got $43 dollars total from the 14 (some I gave away free), so an average of $3 each - not bad, considering most were roos!!!! I was honest about who I thought was a boy too!

BUT THEN, my local poultry enabler gave me 11 packing peanuts chicks that came with her ducks and 2 (REALLY CUTE) roosters (a blue OEGB and a SILVER Ameraucana) and 3 hens (two of which are broody)! SO, I actually gained 2 chickens today, and those are broody hens! My current broody has 4 eggs due Thursday. I don't want to torture myself by candling, I will just wait and see what happens.

I plan to sell the packing peanut chicks tomorrow at the second day of the yard sale. I am going to tell people they are "probably boys", but that they are buying a nice large cage with a feeder, a waterer and a heat lamp for $40, and the 10 chicks are included!
