I am so sorry for the losses but am glad your whole flock wasn't wiped out.

We have something getting into one of our pens (as all our secure coops aren't done yet) and have lost 3 and of course 1 was one one my favorites. It happens at night so we aren't sure what it is but have set a couple of traps.

One of our coops has a URI going through it. Someone didn't listen when I told him we needed to isolate the new birds and now BAM!!!

We lost one of our first babies (who is almost 4 months) and 2 of the ones that he put in the cage are sick.

No smelly discharge and I've been reading a ton. But I'm glad are coops are moveable and none are near the others.....Now we isoalte anything new......

So we are getting hit with lots of rain. Dave can't work on the new coops because of all the rain. So.......we have the 2 new sussex who don't have a coop yet..They are in a cage in my kitchen...The new brahma's are in a cage in my basement...everyone thinks I need to be comitted.......even the cats are walking around shaking their heads......

Some of you may know I'm buying a house and escrow didn't close as expected on Tuesday. It is now scheduled/hoped to be tomorrow.

But that's not the important part of this post: My land-lady busted me on my ducks. She saw them this morning - referred to them as "a boatload of black ducks." Would 7 be a boatload?

Anyway, Louie the Cayuga widower has been in papa duck heaven, teaching the ducklings how to forage, how to utilize the kiddie pool for drinking, splashing and swimming, how to drill to China, and what puddles are good for. (Apparently all of those things!) He brought them out to the front yard....

Except for this aversion to ducks, my land-lady is a wonderful woman, so I didn't blurt out, "Okay, whatcha gonna do, evict me? You're the one that wants me to stay and NOT move to my new house until next April!" (She thinks the first winter will be too hard on me in the foothills, I should wait until I have permanent medical coverage assured for my retirement and in April I will have worked for the department for 20 years.)

Instead, I smiled, acknowledging the fact that I have disobeyed her, and said, "Well, all the ducks and chickens will be gone before too long."

I love my 3 black runners, but I am convinced they share a brain lol

Thanks for the tip, I checked the state wildlife laws. It IS legal to relocate a raccoon, but not a fox! However, the Division of Wildlife must first be notified before relocation.

I was surprised to find that "If wildlife is causing damage to crops, real or personal property, or livestock - a person (or any employee or agent of the
landowner) may hunt, trap, or take the following wildlife on lands owned or leased by the person without securing a
license to do so: • ... coyotes, bobcats, red foxes, raccoons, ... etc"

SO I guess, my neighbor, er agent is legally allowed to "pop" the fox after I catch him! I was thinking that might be illegal!

I resisted 8 free hens yesterday. I am going to TRY to keep my numbers down so I can spend the summer hiking, fishing and camping!!!

Happy Thursday to y'all!

I'm glad I could help but I still blame you for my 4 mallards. All growing too fast in my opinion as I prefer them as ducklings.

Yes, lots of rain here too in the last few days. 1 of my ponds, which is normally shallow, has grown to an acre or more from 20' by 20' roughly. The pond is a spring on a dip in the land so it doesn't usually get much past knee high but spreads well in the pasture. I took Daffy, Donald, Daisy and Daphine out to the shallow pond so they weren't harrassed by the Geese.

I'm hoping some of the older generations recognize the names of my Ducks.

My batch of Juv's are doing well in their pens now. Silkies are a favorite with the wife

. The dogs are all doing great and all the other animals. Foals sold finally, along with some calves.

Well, I guess I am getting to be more addicted than I thought. Last Saturday I went to an auction (animal), and bought 14 RIR babies and 3 Red Quill Old English Game.
To top all that off I am getting reafy to put eggs in the incubator, 60 to 75 depending on what I collect from today through Sunday. These will be my special blend chicks, my project.
