The heat is finally starting to go down, hopefully the chickens will pickup their egg laying with the temperature decrease.
I ended up loosing six Hens and two Roosters from heat related deaths. I have a fan circulating air through the coops, which I have all connected with salvaged housing ventilation ducts. Well the fuse went out in the middle of the night the other day and I didn't realize it until it was to late.
I lost all but two of my Buff Orps Hens and 1 Jersey Giant Rooster(Thankfully not "Jersey") and 1 Blue Cochin Rooster.
Luckily I have a dozen plus Buff Orp eggs under one of the remaining hens and hopefully some will hatch and provide some new hens.
The puppies are home now for a few days and doing just fine. My wife is learning how to teach them to "Rat". They tend to do it naturally but extra pointers are helpful.

My chickens are doing well...if panting til their comb wobbles is "well"....poor guys and girls. I let them out the minute I get home....it's funny to watch. I pull in the driveway and the run is full of chickens. By the time I get out of the car the run is empty and they are squalking up a storm inside the coop. Open the door and STEP BACK...cuz they come at me at all heights. Some even fly over my head in an attempt to be the first one out.

I put ads on Craig's List and actually got 2 people interested in the ***n Silkie roos. I hope they don't back out on me or I am gonna drive by Annie's house and throw them out the window. I just KNOW she wants more chickens. And she hasn't been online recently to see my diabolical plan.

I feel for you on the craigslist flakes. I had chicks up for sale a while back and must have gotten a dozen emails that they wanted them when could they get them yada yada yada. Umm, ok, come get them? LOL. Finally you get one that finally shows up.

I would say I get 1 out of 5 Craigslist people show up. But considering that craigslist is free, I don't mind. I sell almost all of my "extra" birds on C/L

I also don't mind, because I call or email almost EVERY chicken ad I see, but I only show up to about 1/2 of them!

I am contemplating an order of 50+ bantams from Ideal because...

YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY BANTAMS!!!!!

I am supposed to be ordering chickens.

My husband wants just barred rock.

I said... "I want a couple guineas."

then I said... "The kids want a couple fluffy funny chickens."

then he says... "I want turkeys"

and now I say... is a 25 x 25 pen going to be enough? no. never.

I have placed about 40 mock orders.
I can't seem to get the number below 50.

... I am supposed to be ordering around 15.

uh oh.

I've been sure we would lose some of ours as well but so far (knocking on my head) we haven't....however, panting and hiding anywhere there is no sun is the new thing....Had something knock over the temporary fence but it's too darn hot to be digging holes for poles and such so we were out after the rain last night fixing it...Had a big storm blow in yesterday morning and I'm at work and call Dave worried about the chickens. He told me I need to get a new hobby....

Good Morning All!

Been busy the last few days. Wednesday we fixed up an old room in our barn for another chicken pen, it turned out super nice and you wanna know the BEST part? It was all Women Power!

I will try to take some pictures and get'em up here.

Yesterday afternoon I put 12 Light Sussex eggs from my flock in the incubator for a test run/hatch. Hoping I have a great hatch!
