That's why I use a basket with fleece scraps in it and a cardboard covering to discourage egg-eaters while I do my chores. So far, none have cracked there

I head out of the house to feed and water and just forget to grab something to put the eggs into. It's just a "duh" moment on my part. Now that the girls look to start laying again...the pockets will not do. I'll put a basket by the back door to remind myself.

Muggsmagee, they do exist! lol I was convinced from the get go that Leghorns were nuts. Just flighty, crazy birds. Well a friend of mine had one and this bird was the SWEETEST girl I've met. She would jump on my lap and just taaalk and she looved jumping on her owners laps and getting treats, she was so sweet. A white leghorn too

My white leghorns are wonderful. I think it's because they were my first chickens and I babied them since I had the time to do so. Now they follow me around like dogs.

I have to cull one soon (sniff) as she's apparently an internal layer, but other than that they are great birds and I love the big floppy 'hair' combs.

How odd! My friend lost her leghorn to internal laying as well, must be common with the breed. Her leghorn was soo sweet she was a very good girl and prolific layer may she RIP

I've been trying to 'cure' her and she's still scratching around and acting chickeny when I'm out there - I thought she was on the mend as her comb went red again and I'm pretty sure she laid an egg, but her butt's all poopy again and the comb is turning grey all over again. And when I'm not looking she's all poofed up.

She's dribbling egg too

. I've been doing all the warm baths and such, but she was ill when a young chickie and I'm guessing something got messed up in her plumbing.

My other three leghorns are still giving me gigantic white eggs every day! They are MUCH friendlier than my RIR layers - those HATE being picked up and will rarely even squat for me.

WOW! Lucky lol! My EE is... ok she was hatched around April 29th so however old lol. No squatting or redness in her! But my 6 month old Wyandotte, maybe 7 months can't remember she is 4 weeks younger then the EE, she squatted a few days ago and has been ever since. YAY FOR EGGS!
