The 2011 catalogs are flooding in! Mine are usually handed to me and I hear something like "you got
MORE hatchery catalogs, no more ordering chicks until you sell the ones you have". I think I am on the mailing list for every hatchery!
I have already received 2 chick orders in 2011, I sold all of last weeks shipment at 1 week old for $3 each! I was doing so good, thinking I was hot stuff "I sell started pullets", then
WHAM, today's Pullet Surprise Special shows up! They are all cute! No recognizable breed except for the 7-8 Easter Eggers that are in colors I have never owned! Last weeks shipment was 1/2 Barred Rocks and 1/2 Rhode Island Reds, so easy to sell!
I got 2 White E.E. chicks, a Black E.E. chicks and several sable colored accompanied by the usual chipmunk colored E.E.s. I have to keep some of these! Also, I think there are some buff minorcas, I think that because they are tiny! And buff!
I am terrible at pictures, and I don't like to pick up little chicks to get better pictures either. I think I am going to keep the chicks I got today for a while, at least.
Still trying to incubate, its an uphill battle! I have LOTS of eggs in the incubators, but I worry constantly about them. I hope some hatch, buying eggs on
ebay is the worst way to do it! Buy from BYC members or buy them locally is what my opinion is. If you find a seller on
ebay, find out if they are on BYC. BYC members just care a little more than
ebay sellers!
I hope everyone's new year has started well and that all your birds are happy and healthy!
