Do you know how to count baby buttons that are running every which way?

Count all the little legs and divide by two.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Darn it... Okay, so the DM does NOT want roosters... I told her I knew how to feather sex and all that, but she doesn't want to give them away to be eaten. Sooo... I was wondering, does anyone want to take a couple SF roos just to be roos, not chicken noodle soup?

I must say...this has been a great weekend for selling chickens! 23 full grown birds will find new homes as of tomorrow! Woo-woot!

I am thinking of putting up my NYD chicks on CL tomorrow.. Would love to keep them, but already have those OE eggs in the bator and I only got . Hmm. I want my little mille fleurs to have company but they can wait a few weeks.

I have an addiction...I admit it.

Today was the chick's burial. Opened them all (hey, I'm 14, so I'm naturally curious). There was a BO like the BR that I cracked open the other day, who was grown but hadn't absorbed the yolk. It was dead, though. The others were all small or nothing except for a RIR that had absorbed half the yolk and another BO. They all were dead. The BO had absorbed the yolk and filled up the entire egg. It would have hatched if it could. However, it had a tumor on its belly.

Opening them up is part of the learning curve. Everything you had the chance to see will help you gauge your next hatch. It is very sad, and I'm sorry for your loss,

but I'm proud of you for taking the opportunity to see for yourself the extent of development of your chicks...or the lack thereof. The "tumor" you mentioned sounds like a hernia or possibly it's guts outside of the body. I can only imagine what you are talking about from my own lousy hatching results in the past...and that is what I envision...hernia or guts. So sorry.
