The bantams (2 silkies, 3 OEG, 1 cochin, and 1 ?) are ONLY 4 months and 2 days old today! Wow!

I was out of town for the weekend, and all the babies, including the geese, had visibly grown in my absence!

Daisychick - I have you down for another Spitzhauben pullet, it is the same age as yours...

I hate to enable, but I raised my 4 OEGB from chicks (got them from Ideal in an assortment) and they grew up in a 18" x 3' x 3' cage and they are so tame! There is one hen that I did not hold as much when she was young and she is more skittish and will not allow me to just pick her up, she has to be caught, but the other 2 hens and the roo will just walk up to me with my hand out and allow me to pick them up!

These 4 are absolutely my favorite chickens. They still live in their cage, but now the cage door is ALWAYS open and the cage is in the chicken house and they come and go as they please, but they are usually always in there, they just come out to eat and drink and scratch.

I hear you! I am addicted to raising baby chicks too! After 5 orders of baby chicks and 40-ish currently in the brooder, I still love it!

I spend ALL of my free time watching them and feeding, watering and cleaning up after them. The room in the garage the brooder(s) are in is COATED with a layer of dust, with the dust sticking as nicely to the vertical surfaces as to the horizontal surfaces!

I need to move the 6 week olds outside, but they are socialized with the 2 week olds, and I want them to get along as adults so the 5 older pullets are staying in with the chicks. The older pullets cannot get to the area under the heat lamp, there is 2" x4" wire mesh that the babies just run right through.

I raised and sold over 100 started pullets this winter, watching them grow helped keep the winter blues at bay!
