Yes, you totaly need to go get a camera and get an egg pic..and of course a picture of the girl that layed it!

I went out and gathered a few eggs and I found one of my Lavender Guinea females in a dirt nest standing kind of weird..I walk over and see a freshly layed egg still wet in the nest..along with two other guinea eggs..I turn around and find another guinea egg over by the water! That means all 4 girls gave me an egg today! Way to go girlz!

What do duck eggs taste like? I heard they taste different. Then again I had someone tell me Guinea eggs tasted nothing like chicken eggs..can't tell the differents!

I hate openly admitting this...I'm not a HUGE fan of eggs. HOWEVER...I love to bake, and can tell you the difference is remarkable in the taste and consistencey of things I've baked (staples I always make...brownies, scones, pancakes, french bread [used the duck egg whites] ). My niece and daughter made french toast this weekend with duck eggs and the boys (DH, DS, and DB (brother)) loved them. I am getting the gumption to make a duck egg quiche next...I just need some fresh zukes and tomaters from the garden...any. day. now!

It should be just around the corner. The pure Ams are notorious for taking an extra month or two...but once they start laying, you'll be inundated!!! My friend took this photo...one of the NH x Buff Am eggs she hatched of mine just started laying...the egg in the pic she sent me is periwinkle in color!!! Who else hatched those eggs? I didn't keep any for myself! Linda and Chandra...did you hatch any NH x BA???

I've heard that when you use duck eggs to bake that they make things twice as fluffy and yummy. A local breeder I know has ducks and he told me when he makes Cornbread with duck eggs they're twice as fluffy and yummy!

That is cold! It made it down below 70 last night here and the air feels cool, much less humidity than we have been having lately. I can honestly say I wont miss the heat indices of 110+ . Now if we could just get rid of the smoke from our own personal forest fire life would be perfect!

Our low today was 58, but I am lovin it! High today predicted to be 76. Perfect weather. I can leave my fans off and I'm planning to put some chicks outside today. Not sure how well that will work. Have had 7 week olds in with the POL pullets + 2 roos for the last two weeks, but they are in a dog cage. Planning to put said cage outside in the big chickens usual hangout. We shall see.

I know it's sketchy to integrate this early, but my growout coop still has my olive eggers so..

Ah, the life of a chicken addict.

Meagan, I didn't hatch out any of that mix. I think mine were the Wellie X Amer and the 2 that hatched out of those turned out to be boys.

I want a purple egg!!!!!! Someone should try that cross again and see if they get more eggs like that!
