Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

Hmm.. my maybe roo looks hennish again today. Argh.

I guess I'll wait a few more weeks and see. There's nothing obvious enough to be worth posting pics, and I kinda gave that up after everyone insisted my EE roo was a hen up down and sideways (and I thought it was a roo). hee hee.

Anyways, I *think* on a quick candle that about 33/45 of my eggs are moving along. Bunch of clears, but that's to be expected with shipped eggs. Oddly enough, the cheaper ebay seller eggs are coming along at almost 100%. My blue eggs have a bunch developing but also a bunch of clears - I know she shipped very fresh eggs, as the aircells were teeny. MY mutt eggs are coming along nicely, so I guess my guy is doing his job.

So umm, any addicted folks want any chicks in a bit? LOL. I'm keeping anything tufted or NN that pops out tho!

I lost one to a hawk a few weeks ago, so that means I have room for at least 5 more.. right?

My name is NC ChickenKate and I am a chicken addict. I want to spend all day in the chicken yard watching them eat, peck, dust bathe and eat some more. Would rather spend my alloted computer time at BYC then read or answer my emails. Presently looking at homes to buy and my first thought when looking at the property/yards is "where exactly would the coop and chook-yard go?". My second thought is..."is there enough room to have two coops and yards?" The house that is at the top of all the possibles has a next door neighbor with a children's wooden play set in the back yard, and I'm thinking..."do you suppose they might want to convert that into a coop?"
Was given a mechanical chicken with a Santa hat for Christmas...what's an addict to do when friends and family enable your addiction?

At least 5.

I have an empty coop I could put a few roos in to grow out for food. But you have to understand that they are gonna be soup, not pets. I have enough roos for my breeding needs.

Sure Cass! I have been giving the roos away for food to other BYC'ers if they aren't 'specials'. If you want roos to grow out for dinner, I'll hook ya up. After all, there's always a chance one of em might get lucky and become a favorite (especially since I might have some interesting breeds). Just don't tell me the details when it's their time to be soup!

Here's the pic of my wobbler about two weeks ago - looked obviously girly at 12 weeks old. now 14 weeks and only slightly pinker but I thought I saw saddles yesterday.. or maybe s/he was just wet after the rain. LOL. As you can see, this looked like a girl then, but I'll give it another few weeks. I think it's an EE/Leghorn, whatever it is.

s/he has a sister that's almost for sure a girl.

I am posting, I am posting. I have just been busy. I really wanted to do the NYD hatch too, but someone "made" me put eggs in a little early so I opted to just skip it this year. We did hatch out some really cute mixes! I also have 9 eggs in my bator again that someone started under a broody and then "made" me put in my bator to finish. I have 2 chicks out and 3 pips this morning, so I am loving it. It is also nice to not have to keep any but 3.
