Chicken Predator CSI - with crime scene PHOTOS.

Firestrike and Narnia,

Kill a single bird by decapitation when preparing to eat. Note how long body flops. For present, note how much of bird in coop is missing. Consider how long it took raccoon to do that. Those two pieces of information will force rethink. For fun, place a live-trap in coop using one of the carcasses as bait tonight. I bet you will catch a coon even with door closed!
Ive witnesed a coon go thru an intire chicken at the same speed of butter in a microwave. It wouldnt take long. Believe me, they have small mouths but are FAST eaters, they have to be other wise other predators get their kill.

I have experience with raccoons themselves, extensive as in years worth with actual confinement and free-range care which is in addition to hunting them. They do not eat that fast.

At least one forced it way into coop and killed a couple inside. Balance of juvenile chickens attempted escape under low light conditions by moving to wall which was fence where other coons were waiting.

Raccoons in Midwestern U.S. only a little larger than the southern variaty.

Take to bait a coon to a location with chicken carcass and measure time required to consume bird.

Let us see a picture of coop showing door and roof. That is where coon gained access. Owing to materials used to contruct frame, the door is first place to scrutenize.

Traps set (One big, one small)! Peanut butter covered marshmallow...yum!

Since June I've lost 2 ducks, 1 rabbit and 12 chickens to raccoons. I have one chicken left and after continually fortifying the coop and it not working I'm off to buy a trap this morning and some cat food.

I had a similar problem last year and a neighbor let me borrow her trap, In 2 months I caught 5 raccoon and 3 possums, 1 squirrel and a rabbit.

I suggest trapping it and killing the culprit, never let it go it will just kill someone else's pets and also it might be illegal to release in another area. It is here, so I just kill them and toss them in the trash.

There ya goo. Good luck trapppin. And what ^^ said, 22. does a good job. Aim for heart. Not the head, Head shot with a 22. itll still be alive. Heart shot itll end it quicker. I prefer 20 gauge. As it ends it within the second u pull the trigger.
Good luck!
They like chicken :p
