Well, we had 16 cornish rock crosses, and though I had planned on processing them myself, after I did the first one this past weekend, I've decided to find someone else to do it.
Although all went generally smoothly after the death, when I tried to break its neck with a broomstick over its neck while I pulled up on the shanks, his head sort of slipped off. I guess I pulled too hard in my nervousness! Anyway, no more of that now.
I've called many many feedstores and meat packing plants, but the closest I could find was a 2 hours drive to Houston.
Can anyone recommend someone? Or, a better way to find someone?
Thank you!

i put an ad in craigslist asking if anyone knew of any around my area. i know beaumont's craigslist isn't that great but i believe there's another free ad space in beaumont that's pretty popular.

the other place i would check is the local 4H clubs. after they are finished with their broilers for the shows, i'm sure some of them have their extra's processed. and so should have info on a local processor.

I am from your area but I do not know of anyone who does this. We process our own, however, you may want to try placing a free ad on Southeasttexas.com under the livestock category. This site is passed over by many sets of eyes and I am sure you would get some feedback. You do not have to give out a phone # or e-mail address to get a response.

I was going to suggest southeastexas.com as well.

Not sure who you had in mind in Houston, but Harris County Farms just off of Hwy 90 past Crosby processes birds for $3 each. Still a long way, but now quite to Houston.

Where is that eggzactly? I live very close to Crosby. I go to Loves marina all the time to launch our boats

Is that a private outfit?
