Long story short....very sick chicken tried all crop impaction/sour crop home remedies. Chicken was losing weight & getting sick. We did crop surgery at home and it went very well (thanks to all of you who have posted instructions).

Chicken (13 weeks) is feeling loads better. She is on injectable penicillin. Just started her back on oral rehrydration (special animal kind that has electrolytes, probiotics, vits etc...). Gave her 6 ml of applesauce & poops are looking normal albeit runnier than normal due to lack of solids.

She is though, making a weird breathing noise through her nostrils as if there is water or something in them??? I did give her rehydradtion earlier through a syringe, could I have accidentally gotten some in her nostrils?

She has been making bowel sounds earlier & crop was a bit airy but seems a bit better now. Just wondering what everyone elses experiences have been with the recovery of post crop surgery.

Thanks !

Best way to give liquids when you have to push them a bit is to put a drop or two along the side of the beak. They will have to sort of lick it into the mouth with their tongue that way. Prevents them from aspirating.
