Chicken related inventions......Id like to see them!

Yes, it does help alot. They dont knock out near as much feed. In fact, usually there would be a pile on the floor and since we installed this one, nada. The curve of the pipe makes a sort of natural lip and they can reach the feed, even when it isnt up at the edge. Holds a ton of feed, too, in that large and tall pipe.
Hanging the feeders didnt help me at all, really. There was still feed on the floor all around them. I have two that hang now. One has one of those round rubber pans like you place under a hot water heater to catch feed. It's full of feed all the time.

Did you cut the PVC directly in half or a little less than half to make it curve up a bit on top? I'm assuming I can cut it with a jigsaw. Yes?

Thanks for the help! I'm tired of the waste and the ooky mess.

I made one the other day for the hens and it was really easy but I still messed up! The jigsaw worked great to cut long sides of the hole. It is the eidth of my hand. A handsaw did well to do the cut across the pipe. Do not cut the feeding hole all the way to the very end of the pipe (not the corner side) or your end cap will not stay on. Lesson learned!

pure genius!

Care if I steal the idea?

I would like to know how much food a PVC feeder like that will hold.I have priced the feeders for chickens online and also at the feed stores they are insane i also may steal this idea..

Check out how DBF hung the feeder & waterer under our coop!

Edited for clarity: "DBF's favorite feature of the entire set-up is the feeder and waterer, which he mounted on extra heavy-duty cabinet rails so that they could be pulled out easily. It has made a huge difference and makes adding food and water very simple. He's very, very proud of himself."

And here's what the chooks see from the inside of their run:

I made a chicken harness. I'm still breaking it to them (ie, they back up every time they're supposed to go forward) but eventually I will triumph and add on a chicken cart to that harness! Then they can help me with chicken chores!

Hey, why are you guys all laughing at me? I'll get it... eventually...

LOL... I want to SEE this in action!

Anyone can make a PVC feeder. Just mark your opening and cut with a jigsaw, making sure you smooth the edges. I had to have a large opening rather than multiple small ones due to my Suede's big head and comb. It holds more than 2 gallon pitchers full of feed(mine does due to the length of pipe), maybe 3 gallon pitchers, if you count what's in the tray and you can make the vertical part as tall as you want, use bigger or smaller pipe, etc.
