I live in Alvin Texas and started with 5 assorted pullets back in May and then another young red showed up on my door step. I have 3 reds (the younger one is lighter than the other 2), 1 Dominique, 1 Black sex link, and one that turned out to be a mutt rooster. A couple of them just started laying within the last month. I wanted some different eggs so I just got 2 white leghorn pullets and a year old Ameraucana that lays pale blue eggs. I’ve used backyardchickens for research several times and just joined today.

Hello and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us. It's always good to start with a variety of breeds, that way you can find which ones are most suitable to your climate and setup.

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

Welcome to the BYC Hopefully you'll keep the numbers in check . Seems like every time I look there are more chickens out there That egg of every color got me too . Plus I'm weak and the chickens just keep coming .:oops:And them chicken just don't understand plain English either. I say stop and the chickens just keep coming . :lau But BYC has helped me to better learn how to deal with the large numbers . I just say when asked how many I have .Don't know they move around and that makes me lose count so I give up on trying . ;) Glad your here to enjoy one of the best web sites on the net :frow
