Nice citation. I also believe this to be true. Does it stay around long enough to AID in digestion? was the original question I posed.

Wouldn't it dissolve slower than chicken pellets.. in that time it took to dissolve, could it grind some up?

If this is something you really want to know, and not just argue about, look up the pH of a chickens crop/stomach. Make a solution with a matching pH and throw some oyster shell in there. See how long it takes to dissolve, then report back with the facts.
