Chicken run- $0. Happy chickens- Priceless

i love your coop, and if I had a camera that worked I would upload a picture of mine! My husband is a brick layer, and our coop and run is made of 100% recycled and left over stuff from various jobs. Well, on the one side we just stapled the chicken wire to the trees and it works great. I can't wait to get a camera again.

I was so pleased when I found at my work some heavier duty pallets that had been used for some air conditioning units. There was plenty of good lumber there plus some other crating material that would just going to be thrown away. So I asked permission to have it and hauled it home. Last Saturday we started taking the pallets apart and salvaging the good wood. Here is one of my young helpers pulling the nails out. I will be posting pictures on my home page and eventually post it on the small coop page. It's great to be able to build something out of scrap!

Very cool. I got a used trampoline for FREE through FreeCycle. I actually had offers for several since I didn't care if it was usable as a trampoline, so it might be worth looking into. We've not done anything with it yet, other than use the safety net for some shade.

We built our low cost open air coop last weekend. It's still not finished, but it's livable for the chicks. You can see it here:

We were given the fencing and had most of the hardware. We had to buy pressure treated lumber for the frame, but used wood from old bookshelves for the roof (pallet wood would have worked too). Our coop has to be aesthetically pleasing due to factors in our neighborhood, so we could not do all free stuff.
