thanks everyone. I would have loved to have entered the contest, but i know it would have been a miracle if i won. I would love if someone would start a "Green Chicken Coop Contest" to see just how many entrys it would get. Maybe we can ask Nifty?

Maybe set a dollar amount that can be spent?

That's great! My run is also all recycled materials, FIL had some old rusting chain link fence just laying in his junk pile, and some left over netting in his barn. DH cut cedar posts in the swamp and I dug holes. And voila! A run that my birds liked initially but now that they've been free ranged they'd rather be outside!

Oops, DH just reminded me that the gate hinges and latch were purchased.

Bravo, BellLisamo!

I have a friend who likes to say "Cheap is good, free is better!" And I like the term "Green Coop Construction", it sounds so positive & trendy, instead of "coops I built with stuff I found because I couldn't afford to buy new materials to make something that looks really spiffy".

All of my coops have been built with stuff I've scrounged, mostly from people's curbside discard piles. We have bulk pickup 2X a week here and I always drive with an eye to the sides of the road. I also keep gloves, rope & bungee cords in the van.

Recently I've been building little triangular arks out of old bird cages to use to keep chicks out in the grass. I just take the 4 main panels and zip-tie them in pairs lengthwise to make a ^, then attatch the top & bottom panels on the ends. If I knew as much about posting pictures as I do Green Coop Construction, I'd show you the photos.
