Hi everyone. I am building my new chicken run for my chickens since we finally moved in our new house. My question is how much hardware cloth do you think I should buy.

The chicken run will be 24 foot long by 12 foot wide and 7 foot tall. It will only have 2 24 foot long sides and 1 12 foot side. Because it will be put up against the chicken coop, which is a garage I converted into a chicken coop.

I plan on buying 48” x 100’ roll of 16 gauge hardware cloth.

This is a picture of the idea of the run. But it will have a roof throughout the entire run.

1x 100ft roll is not enough material.

24ft front + 24ft back + 12ft side = 60 linear feet of walls at 7ft tall.

Horizontal installation:
7ft wall / 4ft HC = 2 horizontal strips x 60 linear feet = 120 ft of 4' HC

Vertical installation:
60ft length / 48" HC = 15 vertical strips (+1 for overlapping)
7ft wall height x 16 strips = 112 ft of 4' HC

Vertical with 2ft anti-dig skirt:
9ft wall (7' wall + 2' skirt) x 16 strips = 144 ft of 4' HC

Cheapest place I've seen HC for sale is Amazon; close 2nd is local feed store. Easiest way I know to cut is with an angle grinder/cutoff wheel.
