Hey!
I have 3 4 week old chicks currently, 2 EE bantams and one silkie bantam. It has been one of my greatest desires to sex them. While I have an idea of what they are, I want people who know chickens more than me to help.
CHICKEN ONE:
This is the chicken I believe is a roo. He calls out whenever I take another chick from the brooder, as if he is trying to regroup his flock. The comb is red and lumpy, and there may be a sliver of waddle development. He sometimes pecks me a little bit whenever my hand gets too close. Finally, when I was out of the room, I heard a loud, odd, and long chirp that sounded like a crow, and I'm expecting it was this one.
CHICKEN 2:
This is the second EE (I accidentally used the same image twice, sorry guys). This one peeps nervously and runs off when my hand enters the brooder. She struggles for a moment when I pick her up, but she quickly stops peeping and struggling. This is the one I think is a hen. But the comb is yellowish and not very big or lumpy. To be honest, it looks like a girl to me.
CHICKEN 3:
This is the silkie bantam (again, a repeated picutre...). Anyways, I know you can't really tell a silkie's sex until they are 8 weeks or so, but I'm noticing behavioral things that signal a hen in my head. She is shy, jumpy, and calm when left alone. She doesn't stand very tall whatsoever. She peeps loudly and struggles when I grab her. She doesn't peep that much when she is left alone. (She still waters and feeds herself, don't worry.) She is very sweet, but I know most Silkies are sweet.
Thank you if you help me with sexing my chickens. I appreciate it!
With love,
