My little bantam just laid her first egg today! You can see a pic of her and her egg in the sticky "first egg" post

I was wondering if laying the first egg is a shock to them. She is very quiet now, and will go sit quietly in a dark part of the pen, though she will come out if I call her. I guess it might be painful to them, too, right? She is usually my most talkative lady, and the most active! Is there anything special I should do for her? I've been giving her plenty of pets and holding her a bit...she loves to be held and petted!

You know what Dolly Pardon always said about her bosom. It was like trying to shove 10#'s of flour into a 5# sack . . .probably about like us giving birth. . .

LOL! Not ever having given birth, I can only imagine that it's not pleasant at all! She perked right back up after a couple hours and is back to bugging us to let her out to play.

Oh, good God, it can't be anything like a human giving birth, can it? No creature could withstand doing that every day.

It can't be all that bad...I have a couple who just hop up and dash- no song or anything!

I think the first time, it must be a REAL shocker!! I'm sure she'll be less freaked tomorrow.

Just because it gets easier with time doesn't mean it doesn't hurt like heck. I always figured that's why they squawk so much when they lay one.
