I'm new at showing chickens, and I was wondering if with Silkies do you have to show at least three at a time? Do they have to be a certain age to show?

It all depends on the rules of the show. You want the bird to at least to have all it's adult feathers in. I have shown birds as young as 4 1/2 months old but I would recommend at least 5 preferably 6 months and older. Some breeds take longer to mature.

In answer to your first question, no you do not have to show in trios if you are showing at an APA/ABA sanctioned show, you may if you desire but must specifically mark it on the entry form and they will be judged and receive points accordingly. County and state fair rules will vary and may require showing in trios.
Your second question can be easily answered in that the older the bird the better the chances of it competing well. Young pullets and cockerels will lose to older birds that are of equal quality according to the Standard. Always try to hatch your chicks as early as possible in the year giving them adequate time to mature before the fall show season begins. I usually begin setting and hatching in late December/January.

It depends on what this show focuses on. Often if it is more focused on production and market you will have to show in trios. The best thing to do for questions like that is to talk to the director of that show or if it is a 4H event talk to the extension office or the poultry leader.
As for age that all depends on what type of show it is
